Youth Events

2020 has been an unpredictable year. The COVID 19 Pandemic has caused many changes for everyone. The youth here at Calvary were scheduled to go to New Orleans on a mission trip June 27-July 2, but we have decided to postpone this trip until summer 2021 due to COVID 19. Our concern for the safety of our students and adults is important to us and New Orleans was one of the hardest hit cities. Please keep them in your prayers.

We have decided instead to take our group to Devil’s Den State Park in Winslow, Arkansas for a time of reconnecting and fellowship. The date of the trip is July 6-10, 2020. The cost is $200 and will include the food and a shirt for the week. We will be making our own food and serving each other. We have rented three air conditioned cabins for the week. We will divide our group between girls and guys and will be sleeping in the cabins. Everyone should plan to bring a sleeping bag of some sort. You may want to also bring air mattresses in case you do not get a bed. We will be spending most of the week in outside activities. We plan to do a kayaking trip for one of the days we are there. We will also be swimming, hiking, and fishing is available. If you want to fish and are 16 or older you must purchase an Arkansas fishing license. They have a three day license available. You should purchase the trout tag as well. I believe the cost is $36 total for this and it can be purchased online.

We will be having morning devotionals and evening worship during the week and will be discussing the Devil’s Lies and the Father’s truth. Where better to unveil the lies of the Devil than a place called Devil’s Den. We will have special guest speaker Chris Selby with us for the week as well.

I understand that there will still be some concerns over COVID 19 and some may not be able to go because of this.  I completely understand the concern and respect any decision that is made. The reason we decided on this trip is because it will be only our group that is involved. We will have very little contact with people outside of our group which allows us to better monitor the situation. Also most activities will be outdoors in the open and should allow us to not come in close contact with others. If anyone is sick in anyway or has a fever within 14 days of the trip please do not come with us for the safety of all who are going.

Please contact Randy McDaris ASAP at 210-557-2151 or with any questions. We need to get a number of people who are going no later than June 17 to make sure we have enough room and have time to order shirts. Please make sure we have a student ministry medical release form and register below.
